Can You Get Over Procrastination Before It Kills You?

February 5, 2015
Do you fall ‘victim’ to procrastination? Most of us do. We have self-defeating thoughts that keep us from doing what we want or should do. We limit ourselves by fear.
You can place blame on anything but it really is YOUR decision. If you want something bad enough, you take action no questions, no hesitations, no second thought. Right? So do your excuses hold water?
If you are procrastinating, here are some important questions to ask yourself:
– Why are you procrastinating? (I know, DUH! but most of us know the exact answer to this question!)
– What is your obstacle?
– Have you created this obstacle? Is it real?
– What is it you are afraid of?
– What is the worse that can happen?
– Is the worst case scenario a deal breaker?
– Then why are you still thinking about it?
Procrastination can make you feel overwhelmed and helpless. When we procrastinate, we experience negative emotions that are self-defeating. Don’t beat yourself up. Just take one step forward- start with one small task.
TAKE ACTION because “Sometimes later becomes never.”
To start working on taking action as opposed to procrastination, start with your thoughts. Find the positives and be optimistic. If your approach is that this is “hard” then it will be. So it may be a “challenge” but find empowering words to tell yourself and remind yourself how you will feel when you have accomplished completion!
Stay the course.  It’s easy to get distracted. Especially if it’s something you really don’t want to do. So make up your mind to finish this project before you move on to another.
I still find myself procrastinating at times, so I ask myself the questions I shared with you and I find my answers. I take at least one little baby step in the direction to completing whatever it is that I am holding back from. I keep in mind that I am growing and taking action.
I know am successful because I have changed my thought processes. I look deeper into my true self and I face my fears. I am open to growing so that I can help myself and others.
So my friends, here is my suggestion to you . . .
Get to know yourself. Raise your standards. Expect more from yourself. Believe in yourself.
